Shanghai on China’s central coast, it is the country’s biggest city and a global financial hub. The city is located on the southern estuary of the Yangtze River, with the Huangpu River flowing through it. It is a dynamic cosmopolitan city characterised by an ultra-modern, futuristic skyline and a vibrant cultural legacy. The largest city in China by population, Shanghai has massively transformed over the years from a sleepy fishing village and market town, Shanghai grew its importance in the 19th century due to both domestic and foreign trade and its favorable port location.
Reputedly the best area for shopping in the whole of China, the city is also filled with hundreds of visitors’ attractions from historical landmarks such as The Bund and the 400-year-old Yu Yuan Gardens to fancy skyscrapers such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai World Financial Centre, The Bund, Priceless Statues of the Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai Museum, Historic Longhua Temple and Pagoda, People’s Square, Xujiahui Cathedral and the Sheshan Basilica, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, China Art Museum, Shanghai Disney Resort and the Shanghai Natural History Museum. Shanghai is also known as a gastronomical heaven where one can find a diverse array of culinary offerings, from local to international fare. As an important international city, Shanghai hosts numerous national and international events every year, such as Shanghai Fashion Week, the Chinese Grand Prix and ChinaJoy.
